That being said, you WILL need to match up the item_number, custom, notify_url, & return_url parameters. So just do this carefully, and test early and often so you can catch any conflicts that you might create in the process.

The s2Member Button Generator is designed to make it easier, and to avoid any conflicts. But yes, you can definitely create your own buttons using PayPal. If you're ever in doubt, please reply back with the exact options that you're trying to implement through PayPal. I'll confirm for you.
