You will need to have the free version installed, and then add the Pro module to your installation. This will be a very simple process.

The Pro Module, will feature:

Changes to the code base for s2Member, from one version to the next, can uncover already-existing conflicts with other plugins. If s2Member v2.8.6 is activating OK for you, and s2Member v2.9 is not; chances are, this has more to do with your existing plugins than it does with bugs in s2Member. Here are some things you might try. Please feel free to report back to me.

  • Activate s2Member for Blog ID #1 under WPMU.
  • Make sure you're logged in as the MU Site Admin.
  • De-activate other plugins one at a time, until you can successfully activate s2Member. This will tell you which plugin is causing the conflict. A theme can also cause conflicts. So try reverting to the default theme for MU, and test again.
If you're able to pin-point which plugin is conflicting with s2Member ( or vice-versa ), please report back. We'll make a note of it, and see if there is anything that can be done in a future release to resolve the conflict, or provide a work-around. Thanks~

"Unable to activate plugin: Fatal Exception".

When I reupload the 2.8.6 version, I have no problem activating the plugin.

Using: current version of WPMU (activating on one blog only).

Any suggestions?

s2Member Pro is coded ( almost completed ). There are/were some unanticipated conflicts with new features that came out; back when s2Member v2.8.6 was released. We are working through them one-by-one, and expect to have s2Member Pro ready for a full release soon. I'll keep everyone posted on our progress. We're trying to avoid problems like we had when v2.8.6 was initially released. Several bugs were overlooked. We want to avoid that with s2Member Pro if at all possible.

The release of s2Member v2.9 is all about security, with a couple of bug-fixes. I strongly suggest that you upgrade to the latest version. A bug was corrected in v2.9 that was affecting the registration link in the confirmation email. This bug was introduced in v2.8.7, and corrected in v2.9.

Version 2.9 is the most stable release since s2Member v2.8.6 was released with all of its new features. You can upgrade through your WordPress Dashboard in the click of a button. Go to Plugins -> and click the [upgrade automatically] link under s2Member in the list.

I was going to install 2.9 now but is it worth waiting for Pro? What's the major differences when it gets released?

  • This release is all about security and bug fixes, with very few feature additions.

  • Bug fix, %%registration_url%% in the Signup Confirmation Email was being replaced with 1, instead of the full URL. This bug was first introduced in s2Member v2.8.7. This has been corrected in v2.9.

  • s2Member now uses MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256 / CBC through mcrypt_encrypt() when it's available on your server. XOR encryption is used as a fallback for hosts that do not have the mcrypt extension installed. The MCRYPT_RIJNDAEL_256 algorithm provides much better security.

  • A full security review of s2Member has been completed, in anticipation of the s2Member Pro Module; being released later this month ( May 2010 ). A new panel under: s2Member -> General Options -> Security Encryption Key should be configured. Just click the auto-generate button there. s2Member will assign a special Security Key to your installation.

  • Please report all bugs. If you have any trouble with this release, you can always revert back to a previous version until the issue is corrected.

  • [ download the latest version of s2Member here ]
