EOT Behavior - populating with wrong date?

Postby peeld » September 5th, 2011, 4:12 pm

Hi there,

I've got some Paypal button shortcodes set up to be one time, non-recurring subscriptions, to last 3 months. These are NOT buy now buttons but subscription buttons.

I've noticed that when a customer makes a purchase, I get three emails from Paypal. One confirming the purchase, one saying a recurring payment profile has been set up, and one saying the payment has been CANCELLED.

I've also noticed that the EOT time being populated was just a few days in the future and not 3 months in the future. One member was already demoted automatically.

My subscription rate isn't that high...yet...so I've been manually setting the EOT date to the end date I want, which is a fixed date (like the thread below, I'd prefer this capability anyway, regardless of when the user signs up, as I'm offering registration for classes that have a fixed start and end date, but registration is available for a couple of weeks before the start date):

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2878&p=33427&hilit=non+recurring+EOT#p8559

I can post the shortcode if you like, see below:

[s2Member-PayPal-Button level="1" ccaps="goalsettingworkingfall2011" desc="Goal Setting Class - Working Spot" ps="DaisyCreativeLLC" lc="" cc="USD" dg="0" ns="1" custom="classroom.mysite.com" ta="0" tp="0" tt="D" ra="180" rp="3" rt="M" rr="0" rrt="" rra="1" image="default" output="button" /]

Either I'm not understanding how EOT is meant to work, or there's something funny with the Paypal code, or...?

Thanks for the help and clarification. Other than that, all is well. I'm still quite pleased with S2Member and am glad to be using it!!

I turned on logs, and here's a transaction posted this evening with the above button code. I've deleted private/secure data. This was posted in paypal-ipn.log:

Code: Select all

This definitely doesn't seem to match the button code which was set to a one time payment for a 3 month subscription? The EOT passed back to S2Member was the Thursday Sep 8 date :(

Look at this line:

5 => 'Awake. It\'s Tue Sep 6, 2011 2:27:30 am UTC. s2Member `txn_type` identified as ( `subscr_eot|recurring_payment_expired|recurring_payment_suspended_due_to_max_failed_payment` ) - or - `recurring_payment_profile_cancel` w/ `initial_payment_status` ( `failed` ).',

The payment failed and after a while the account was suspended.

Does that help to understand what happened?

By the way, many thanks for providing all the information before I had to ask for it. :)

Yes, isn't that *supposed* to happen? The payment didn't fail, I *did* receive payment. Since it was a one-time non-recurring payment, isn't that behavior normal?

I'm still not sure why the EOT isn't populating correctly :( It's the same with all payments I've received.

Not yet. Jason has been around very little, getting the new release ready these days. I imagine he'll get to this thread soon. Thanks for your patience!

Do you have the log entries for this other customer that was just demoted recently? Could you post them x'ing out any private info, please?

Also, post a list of other plugins you're using together with s2Member, in case Jason needs that. Thanks!

I turned on logging after they made their payment, unless the EOT is logged somewhere?

Plugins:

bpckeditor
bp disable activation
bp group management
bp group email subscription
bp restrict group creation
bp scholarpress courseware
exclude pages from navigation
mail from
maintenance mode
oembed for buddypress
s2member
tinymce advanced
wp-mail-smtp

The next user that signs up I'll leave the EOT as is and let them get demoted so they can generate a log - what file should I expect to see it in?

Thanks,
Daisy

Thanks Daisy.

You can post the entries related to the transaction that had the problem, regardless of the log files you find them (probably all of them).

I see a couple of mail related plugins in your list. Do your members get the confirmation email after checkout?

Thank you VERY much for bringing this thread to my attention.
~ and thanks for reporting this important issue.

Yes, this is indeed a bug in PayPal Standard Button integration, as s2Member is defaulting the "period3" value to 1 D in this specific scenario, which is incorrect. I'll post an update once a fix has been applied. I'm moving this bug to the top of our list for the next release; to come in just a few days.

Re: EOT Behavior - populating with wrong date?

Postby peeld » November 11th, 2011, 11:16 am

You know, I'm going through registration at the moment for my next round of classes, and the EOT is STILL populating wrong :( Here's the button code I'm using (Pro version):

[s2Member-PayPal-Button level="1" ccaps="agilityfoundation_working_winter2011" desc="Agility Foundation Working Student / $180USD" ps="onlineclassroom" lc="" cc="USD" dg="0" ns="1" custom="classroom.daisypeel.com" ta="0" tp="0" tt="D" ra="180" rp="6" rt="M" rr="0" rrt="" rra="1" image="default" output="button" /]

It's supposed to (according to the code S2Member generated) be a one time payment for 6 months access. Everybody so far who has signed up has an EOT field populated with November 13th.

Must say I'm pretty frustrated at the moment, between this and the Buddypress Ccaps no longer working on groups, I'm doing it ALL manually, the only thing S2Member Pro is doing at the moment is collecting payment and redirecting people from certain URLs to the sign up page - definitely NOT working at its full potential :(

Going through registrations, one popped up with an affiliate link as the custom value, that's not a surprise, but THAT one had an EOT of May 10th. Student bought three classes, ALL with a 6 month EOT. Very unpredictable behavior, pretty much useless to me at this time :(

I can understand you'd feel bad with these problems occuring. :|

Could you change the rr="0" to rr="BN" and see if that solves the EOT problem you're having? WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Buttons -> Shortcode Attributes -> rr

Could you also please post the log entries related to the transactions with that problem? (x'ing out any private info) WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Account Details -> Enable Logging

I hope that helps. :)

Yeah, it's just a PITA :) Don't interpret my frustrations to mean I am unhappy with S2Member. You guys seemed swamped yesterday with the help forum, your help is still pretty amazing and I'm glad I'm sticking with the product. Will change and let you know.

I think my problem is exactly the same... You may want to combine my topic with this one. I sell one-year-non-recurring subscriptions and the IPN communication is FAILING, but in PayPal I successfully collect the money from my members.

Can "rr" be set to "BN" in a subscribers button? I thought from reading, that BN is only for Buy Now access buttons. Will PayPal allow this "rr=bn" in the subscriber button shortcode?

I'm willing to try these things... However, it appears that this may have been fixed in an October upgrade release then accidentally broken with the newest bug fixes in the November release of the most current upgrade.

OK, I changed to BN as directed, and now nothing populates but the IP address in the user's profile on the back end. No EOT, ccap, etc. at all. User also doesn't get upgraded from Free Subscriber. Where should I send the log files?

You can post here the log entries related to the transaction you did that had that problem, just x out any private info from them. WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options -> Account Details -> Enable Logging

Did you verify that your PayPal integration is all correct? WP Admin -> s2Member -> PayPal Options

My Paypal integration is correct. Users get emails, I get emails, Paypal and I get our $$, the EOT just doesn't work properly. Here are log entries for a transaction where the EOT and info were populated but incorrect EOT (2 days in advance):

You can see right above that the EOT was set for 2 days in advance, that's what got populated in the user's profile.
