Level 0 to Level 1 for free

how can I upgrade a "Free" level 0 member to a "Paid" level 1 member without them paying? I was looking for a way but the users list wants a PayPal subscriber id. Is there a way? I have people helping me to promote my site and my business and I want them to have full membership so they can build the content and get paying members. Making them an admin is not the answer.

Nevermind...found this out by accident. Someone can join in the free mode and then you can go in and change their role under USERS to whatever level you want. I was thinking of making them a contributor to get past the membership part but I saw the levels in the list. I used that and it worked great!
